UPSSSC PET 2026: Exam Pattern & Syllabus Details
The Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) conducted by UPSSSC is a crucial gateway for all Group B and Group C vacancies in Uttar Pradesh, such as Lekhpal, VDO (Village Development Officer), Junior Assistant, and Tubewell Operator. Scoring a high percentile in PET is mandatory to be shortlisted for the Mains examination of these posts.
- Exam Mode & Questions: The exam is conducted offline (OMR based). It contains 100 Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
- Time Duration: Candidates are given 2 hours (120 minutes) to complete the test.
- Negative Marking: Yes, there is a strict penalty. 1/4th (0.25) marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
- Subjects Covered: The syllabus is vast and includes Indian History, Indian National Movement, Geography, Indian Economy, Indian Constitution & Public Administration, General Science, Elementary Arithmetic, General Hindi, General English, Logic & Reasoning, Current Affairs, General Awareness, Analysis of Hindi Unread Passages, Graph Interpretation, and Table Interpretation.
Why is Scoring High in PET Important?
Unlike traditional exams, merely passing the UPSSSC PET is not enough. The commission releases post-specific cut-offs (percentiles) for Mains exams based on the number of vacancies. For highly sought-after jobs like UP Lekhpal, candidates often need a percentile above 85-90. Therefore, rigorous practice and attempting previous year questions (PYQs) are highly recommended to secure a safe score.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) - UPSSSC PET
